Crete is the largest Greek island and is located in the Mediterranean Sea. It belongs to important archaeological sites, because there were found remains of ancient towns. Crete is an island rich in history. You will find many historical monuments or interesting natural phenomena, such as the pink beach.
What you should see in Crete, and what I recommend you do or experience, is in this article.
1.Knossos, Crete
Perhaps everyone knows the Greek legend of a labyrinth with a minotaur. So this labyrinth is said to be in the Knossos Palace. Unfortunately, this incredible story is only a pure legend, and you would look for a labyrinth with a minotaur in vain. But there are other attractions and some follow the legend. Dolphin wall painting, known perhaps all over the world, belongs to other, even more realistic monuments. In addition, this is one of the oldest, according to some sources, the oldest, paved road in the world.
2. Elafonisi beach, Crete
As the most beautiful beach of Crete is called Elafonisi. It is characterized by pink and golden sand. The sea here is crystal blue and pleasant to swim. Also interesting is the island of Elafonisi, which is surrounded by a beautiful lagoon. Despite the fact that the beach is relatively difficult to access, it is visited daily by many tourists every day and therefore I recommend to come there in the morning.
3. Chania, Crete
Chania is the capital of Crete and is said to be the most beautiful city on the island. There are many restaurants and businesses. An important point in the city is the lighthouse La Laterne.Another interesting building is the Janissary Mosque or Splatzia Square. Certainly I recommend a walk through this admirable city where the streets are lined with hibiscus and sitting Greeks calmly watching tourists.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO
1. Drive a car on Cretan roads
Why should you recognize Cretan roads? It may sound really strange, but when driving on local roads, one really laughs. Of course, you must be careful, of course. A goat or other animal can run in your way at any time. You will walk through many serpentines and when driving on a local highway, you will find that overtaking in the right lane is not uncommon.
2. Look at FAKE clothing
This is one of the places where you can find FAKE clothing on every corner. Tourists are often subject to these good-value brands, so most people on the island are dressed very expensive. Perhaps the funniest moment for me was when I saw a shop in which you combine yourself and filter out what your shirt should look like. You choose the color, cut and of course: any brand.
3. Taste Greek cuisine
Greeks have a truly excellent cuisine. Greek salad is also very popular here. You can taste it in any restaurant in Crete. All restaurants will of course claim to be the best, but of course you will have to judge for yourself. For cake lovers, I recommend you to taste greek lemon pie and certainly enjoy at least one uzo in the evening.
4.Buy a sponge made of seaweed
On the island you will find stalls selling various magnets, shells, statuettes and other souvenirs. What is a rather interesting product is the sponge there. Interestingly, they are actually algae that are now artificially grown for humans.
5. Talk to the Cretan
The Greeks are generally an incredibly nice and cheerful nation. Surely you will have funny moments if you talk to at least one of these people in Crete. Although their English is not usually the best, their humor outweighs the shortcomings.
6. Watch the sunrise and sunset
And in the end, here is an activity designed especially for the romantic. Watching sunset or sunrise by the sea is a really beautiful thing. Sometimes the everyday things we take for granted are the most beautiful things that surround us in life.
