The Italian city of Florence is one of my favourite cities. Why? You can’t find a city like Florence anywhere else. It has an extraordinary charm that no other city in the world has. And what should you do in this enchanting city in 24 hours?
Florence has a strong connection with history. It is the cradle of Italian Renaissance culture. It is home to many important artists. Therefore, today we find a number of world-famous works of art, for example. by Leonardo da Vinci, Botticceli, Michelangelo and many others.
Florence has many interesting buildings in itself
A very important building in Florence is the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore. It is a truly impressive building and must be visited during your visit. Its characteristic large red dome can be recognized from afar.
Right next to this dome is the tower, up to 85 meters high, in Italian Campanila. If you are standing beneath it, exactly 414 steps separate you to its top, but I guarantee that it will pay off for that amazing view.
Another amazing building is the Palazzo Vecchio. This palace can be considered a certain symbol of Florence. It is characterized by its tower, which can be seen from afar. Inside you will find beautiful frescoes and statues.
Statues
On the square in front of Palazzo Veccio, there is a very famous square, namely Piazza della Signoria. Probably the most famous statue you will find in Florence is Michelangelo’s David and you can find the copy of this statue on this square. Today the original one is located in one of the Florentine museums – Galleria dell Áccademia.
Churches
In Florence you will of course find many interesting churches. The most famous are certainly the church of Maria Novella or Santa Croce.
Bridge Ponte Vecchio
Let’s move on, particularly from one side of the Arno River to the other. You can go through one of Italy’s most famous bridges. It’s Ponte Vecchio. You may also know it as a bridge of goldsmiths, as there are many goldsmiths here as in the past.
Art
Florence also offers a number of interesting museums, especially for art lovers. If, for example, you would like to see a picture of the Birth of Venus by Botticelli, I recommend visiting the Galleria degli Uffizi. This gallery is the largest in the whole of Italy and there are a lot of important works of art. However, I would like to point out that Italian museums and galleries are closed on Mondays, so please don’t make the same mistake as I do when visiting Florence the gallery was scheduled for Monday. On the other hand, I have at least one reason to return to this exceptional city.
Florence is a truly magical city and its worth a visit. Beautiful architecture, historical monuments, world-famous works of art, but also much more this city offers. If you like Italy as much as I am, you will certainly be interested in visiting beautiful cities such as Rome or Venice.
