Kremnica is a town in central Slovakia located in the district of Žiar nad Hronom. It has just over 5,000 inhabitants, but it is still very important. Why? Kremnica has the oldest mint in the world. Gold and silver have been mined in Kremnica since the 10th century, which is why Kremnica is also very rich in history.
In addition to the mint, you can also find a nice town castle or even the Museum of gait. There are also various important sporting and cultural events. Kremnica really offers a lot of Slovak tourists.
In the area of the town castle you can also find the church of St. Katrina. You will certainly be interested in the tower from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the whole Kremnica.
The already mentioned oldest mint in the world has been operating since the 10th century until today. You can go there for a tour, which consists of two parts, the tours of the old and the new mint. In the old you will see the embossing machines that used to mint coins in the Middle Ages, and in the new you can see how coins are made today.
Yes, you can really find such an unconventional museum in Slovakia as well. Although the museum is not large, you will find up to more than 700 exhibits, which are divided into different categories, such as. dwarves, Nicholas, hunting, painting, etc.
Kremnice gags is a European festival of humor, hoot and satire. It is held every year at the end of August and you have the opportunity to see various works by Slovak and foreign artists.
Kremnica is definitely one of the most beautiful places in Slovakia and I definitely recommend you to visit it. 🙂If you would also be interested in other places from the vicinity of Kremnica, I recommend visiting Banská Štiavnica or Banská Bystrica.
