Mallorca Island is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Balearic Islands. I decided to travel to Majorca off the tourist season at the end of February 2019. My friend was our first visit to Spain and even though we knew in advance that we probably would not swim in the sea, but Majorca had an incredible charm that can certainly be discovered we also flew from Vienna with Laudamotion. The flight lasted about 2.5 hours with boarding, but what happened during the beautiful summer over the Alps passed quickly. For lunch we were already in the capital of Majorca and therefore in Palma de Mallorca.
Visit Mallorca
Mallorca Island is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful in the Balearic Islands. I decided to travel to Majorca off the tourist season at the end of February 2019. With my boyfriend it was our first visit to Spain and even though we knew in advance that we probably would not swim in the sea, but Majorca had an incredible charm that can surely be discovered We also stayed in the capital right now and I have to say that this location had huge advantages, mainly due to traffic. The airport is located only 8 km from the capital and therefore there is always a bus.
Also, there is the main station, from which you can easily get to other parts of the island, either by bus, metro or other means of transport. During our trip we focused on getting to know the capital and the beautiful port city of Port de Sóller as well as the city Soller nearbye. If we were in Majorca for more than 3 days, we would certainly visit other cities or beaches, but unfortunately we did not spend so much time. Well, at least we have reason to return to this island.
Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca is the capital and largest city of the island of Majorca. Along the waterfront you can walk to the beautiful beach. There you can, depending on the season, either bathe, or as it was in our case just sit in the sand and watch the sunset. The most important monument in the capital is the cathedral. You can actually see it from afar. Right next to it you will find an artificial lake with geyser. As Palma de Mallorca is a port city, you will also find a large number of boats here.
Port de Sóller
Walking through the city & swimming in the sea
Palma de Mallorca is a really beautiful city, but what I liked even more was the port city of Port de Sóller. We got there from the main station and the journey took less than an hour. Originally I thought we were going to sleep on the bus, but that was really impossible! Through the windows we could not look at the beautiful Spanish nature. Oranges and lemons were growing everywhere on the trees, and when we arrived in Mallorca, we were joking at the picture of the orange tree that the oranges would not grow in February (Haha, but we really laughed at it: D). So the trip went really fast.
Port de Sóller was truly a beautiful city. Beautiful beach and sun to draw. The most important monument here is a historic train that runs from Palma Majorca to Port de Sóller. We did not go on this train, however, as compared to an ordinary bus tickets are up to 5 times more expensive. But I have no doubt that the journey through this train must be a great experience. But we did not really regret the choice of an ordinary bus.
Beach&Relax
In Port de Sóller we had a beautiful day and so we spent some time catching bronze on the beach (which later resulted in heat stroke). It was only about 22 degrees, but I still had my swimsuit with me. But as I climbed the sea coast with my bare feet, the thoughts of bathing immediately passed through me. For that friend he was more courageous and threw himself into the sea all. Otherwise, he was the only daredevil far and wide, while others only looked.
Sea View
In addition to having a rest on the beach and strolling through the Spanish streets, we decided to go up the hill a little, from where we had a beautiful view of the sea and the cliffs. First we went to the lookout terrace, where sm along with many others, in this case German tourists admired the sea, and then we set out to look for another beautiful view. Honestly, for a while we wandered about it, but the more we saw from this city. This is how we accidentally found another beautiful place with amazing views, the cliffs with such views are among the most beautiful places that Majorca has to offer.
Sóller
From Port de Sóller, the train leads to another romantic city. This one isn’t called Port de Sóller, but only Sóller. We managed to walk this route as it was only 3 km away. However, compared to the port city of the mentioned Port de Sóller, this did not impress us. Except that it was surrounded by beautiful nature. The city is set in a valley, with mountains and oranges and lemon trees growing everywhere. We did not hesitate to tear those oranges and smuggle a few to Slovakia as souvenirs. ?
From this town we took a bus (tickets are bought directly from the driver) back to Palma, where we had an evening walk with a visit to the bar. The funny thing was that after a busy day we were quite tired and wanted to sit down somewhere, but in Mallorca it was alive in the evening and there were only discos. For a party, Mallorca is indeed an ideal vacation spot. Visiting this island was a real experience for us.
Majorca was worht visiting
I was looking forward to it and knew that I would like the island. But now I know it was even nicer there than I imagined! And it really didn’t matter that we went out of season, although I think taking another such holiday in Majorca in the summer is definitely not a bad idea.
