Everyone associates Cannes with a film festival. This is where Hollywood stars, famous actors and directors from all over the world meet every year, usually in May, to celebrate their success and bring together the best artists together. In front of the festival building, the visitor’s eyes cannot miss the Walk of Fame. In addition to visiting the film festival, the historic city center, tourists in Cannes can spend the afternoon on the beautiful sandy beach.
Festival de Cannes
Probably the most famous and prestigious film festival in the world, it takes place in the French city of Cannes. With its originality it even overtook the world festivals in Venice or Berlin. For about 10 days, the festival screens films from directors from about 20 countries, which then compete for various awards. It competes in various categories, but the most prestigious award is the Palme d’Or. Other categories include the award for best actress, actor, best screenplay, jury award and many more.
La Croisette Promenade
La Croisette Promenade is one of the most awarded gems in Cannes. It got its name from the cross (from the French croisette), which was always an integral part of it, and according to him, the pilgrims were oriented during the pilgrimage to the nearby Lérin Islands. The beautiful promenade is lined with palm trees, luxury hotels, but the Mediterranean Sea with beautiful sandy beaches. At the end of it you will find the already mentioned festival palace, the venue of the film festival.
Iron Mask
According to critics, Leonardo di Caprio did not give the best acting performance in the film The Man with the Iron Mask. But what was this film about and who was actually the man with the iron mask? This mysterious man lived around 1960 and made history by wearing an iron mask since his arrest. One of the many theories states that the man was the brother of King Louis XIV. It is according to such a variant that the already mentioned film was shot. According to historians, however, it was not a member of the royal family. Reportedly, this unfortunate man was just an ordinary valet who learned how his employer got into the dirty money. But the theory is, of course, much more, so it’s up to you to lean towards. But what does this man have to do with Cannes? The already mentioned iron mask can be found in this city.
Beautiful views of Cannes from the old town, Le Suquet
You can treat yourself to the most beautiful views of the city and the yacht-Le Vieux Port from the Le Suquet district. On the high hill you will also find a church called Notre Dame (just like almost every church or cathedral in France: D).
Hollywood Walk of Fame in Cannes
Like Hollywood, so does Cannes its own Walk of Fame. Located right next to the festival palace, you will find handprints of world movie stars such as Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz, my favorite director Tim Burton and many more.
Are you thinking about a trip to the French Riviera? Nice, French Venice – Port Grimaud, or Monaco are definitely worth a visit.
