Game of Thrones is a popular fantasy TV show that has captivated audiences around the world. The show is known for its beautiful cinematography and stunning locations, and one of the places where the show was filmed was the Mediterranean island of Malta. Malta provided the perfect backdrop for many of the show’s iconic scenes, and its unique architecture and landscape made it an ideal filming location.

The City of Mdina as King’s Landing filming Locations

One of the most famous locations in Game of Thrones that were filmed on Malta is the city of King’s Landing. King’s Landing is the capital city of the Seven Kingdoms in the show, and it is the site of many important events in the storyline. The production team used various locations in Malta to create the city, including the historic city of Mdina, which was used to film the city’s gates, alleys, and squares. The ancient city of Mdina provided a perfect setting for King’s Landing, with its narrow streets, high walls, and ancient buildings.

Another location in Malta that was used for filming Game of Thrones is the city of Pentos. Pentos is a city on the eastern coast of Essos. It is the site of many important events in the early seasons of the show. The production team used the island of Gozo, which is part of Malta, to create the city of Pentos. The island’s natural beauty, including its rugged coastline and crystal-clear waters, provided the perfect backdrop for the city’s scenes.

In addition to King’s Landing and Pentos, other locations in Malta were used for filming Game of Thrones. These included the historic town of Birgu. Birgu was used to create the Free City of Valyria and the town of Fort Ricasoli.  Together they made the gates of King’s Landing. The production team also used various other locations in Gozo Island. There was created the show’s famous scenes, including the Dothraki wedding, which was filmed at the Azure Window in Gozo. (unfortunately, this window doesn’t exist anymore, but you can still visit the location).

Overall, Malta provided an ideal location for filming Game of Thrones. The island’s unique landscape, architecture, and natural beauty made it the perfect setting for its iconic scenes. The production team used various locations on the island to create the show’s settings, and they did an excellent job of bringing the show’s fantasy world to life. Game of Thrones has since become one of the most popular TV shows of all time.  Malta has definitely played an important role in its success.
