The 15 Coolest Cafes in Prague

Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. If you don’t agree, you probably haven’t been there yet. But it is not only about the romantic center of the city with museums and castle towers. It’s also about a number of amazing cafes that are popular with tourists as well as locals. Some have lines of people on weekends and it’s hard to even get a table, and some are totally cool and people don’t know them at all.

I’m currently in Prague, where I’m doing my 5-month internship as part of my fifth semester at uni, and I’ve decided to make good use of my time in this fairy-tale city and compile a ranking of the coolest cafes in Prague. I do research, visit different cafes, and evaluate where I like it the most. Some of the cafés really disappointed me, I experienced unpleasant service and bad food (in one of the best restaurants/cafes in the world) and, on the contrary, cafes with the best service and excellent desserts.

In this ranking, I took into account parameters such as the menu (mainly the selection of desserts), the atmosphere of the cafe, the service, and the location (all cafes must be located near the city center) and, above all, the idea. Some cafes caught my attention with a unique theme, such as a Harry Potter cafe, the Great Gatsby theme, or a cafe with Korean desserts.

And so I put together a ranking of the 15 coolest cafes in Prague.

Get inspired by this list and choose the best cafe during your visit in Prague!

1. IPPA Café

If you are looking for real pastry art in the form of beautiful desserts, be sure to visit the IPPA Café. Here you will find cakes in the shape of banana, avocado, or mango. My favorite is the metaphorical cheesecake, made in the shape of a wheel of cheese, like a real cheesecake. What’s great about these desserts, apart from their perfect design, are their ingredients. These cakes contain less sugar and the cafe presents them as healthier alternatives. For example, the filling is often made from fruit ingredients, instead of unhealthy sweeteners. In addition, IPPA also offers ready meals and you can also choose this place for brunch. It is without a doubt one of the best cafes in Prague and worth a visit. It has up to 4 branches in Prague, below is the address of one of them.

Address: Jungmannova 30/21, 110 00 Praha 1

2. Cafe Louvre

Café Louvre is definitely one of the coolest cafes in Prague. In this case, its unique historical atmosphere is to blame. This cafe is up to 120 years old and still charms every visitor. When you sit at the table here and order your afternoon coffee, remember that in the past, personalities such as Albert Einstein, Franz Kafka, or Karel Čapek may have sat at the exact same table. You will definitely be charmed by its large spaces and choose from a wide menu. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Café Louvre. Determine the place you should visit on your visit to Prague.

Address: Národní 22, 110 00, Prague 2

3. Černá Madona

Černá Madona is a restaurant in the historic center of Prague with elements of Cubism. Here you will find a wide range of desserts and drinks, as well as a great breakfast or lunch menu at an affordable price. You may know their well-known dessert “Virus”, which became viral during the coronavirus pandemic. I tried this dessert at their place, and I must say that with the raspberry filling, they really succeeded in the recipe. It is a great place for an afternoon coffee and they also have outdoor seating, so you can enjoy a cake in the very heart of Prague on a warm day.

Address: Celetná 34/569, 110 00 Praha 1

4. Cukrář Skála

Another amazing pastry shop that is popular with tourists, as well as locals, is Cukrář Skála. What is special about this business is that you can see the production right there. This way you will get a unique insight into confectionery creation and you can buy the desserts right away. For example, I looked at the production of punch cuts. Their offer is very wide, and fans of traditional cookies, as well as those who prefer modern confectionary art, will find something for themselves. Cukrář Skála has two establishments in Prague, below I present the one in the very center of the city.

Address: Dlouhá 727/39, 110 00 Praha 1

5. Kavárna Obecní dům

A luxurious cafe in the style of The Great Gatsby in Prague? Yes, you can also find them here. High ceilings, golden details, and crystal chandeliers. This cafe will really transport you to the 1920s in Art Deco style. Really great atmosphere and is visually one of the most beautiful cafes in Prague.
To be honest, the person there didn’t really like the coffee latte, but I haven’t tried any dessert yet, so I can’t really compare it. However, the magnificent art room completely swept away the coffee’s subtle flaws. The service was really nice and it was funny to watch the robot that was integrated among the waiters and took the dishes from the cafe to the kitchen. So I definitely recommend visiting this cafe, it’s a great place for a date and I recommend it, especially for art lovers. Cafe Obecný dum definitely deserves a place in the 15 Coolest cafes in Prague.

Address: 5 Obecní dům, Náměstí Republiky 1090, 110 00 Prague 1

6. Aux Merveilleux de Fred

Do you have a sweet tooth? In this cafe, they make traditional French desserts right in front of you! Be sure to try the traditional dessert Merveilleux, which is the main product here and is really delicious! They have it in different flavors and sizes. In addition to their excellent desserts, you will definitely like the luxurious atmosphere of the cafe, which is also magnified by its large crystal chandelier, which people admire even through the window!

Address: Revoluční 1082/8, 110 00 Prague 2

7. Maru Café (카페마루)

If you are not a fan of Korean desserts, you can skip this straight away and go to the next cafe. But if you want to try something new and like to experiment with flavors, visit the Korean Café Maru. This place has a really unconventional cafe menu and desserts too. Have you ever had a strawberry latte, green tea latte, or sweet potato latte? For example, I had a black sesame latte and a croffle with topping here, and I must say that it was really delicious. Also, I have to say that even though the staff didn’t speak English, it was a cafe with the best customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. Definitely recommend!

Address: U Půjčovny 6, 110 00, Prague 2

8. Café Chloé

Café Chloé is one of the most Instagrammable cafes in Prague! Do you want to feel like Barbie in a fairy tale? Go to a pink cafe full of flowers in the center of Prague. The cafe offers a really wide menu. you can go here for brunch, for example, and you’ll definitely enjoy yourself. But what makes them really special? I would pay attention to their cocktails. not every cafe offers breakfast cocktails that are also nicely served. For fashionistas, there are stylish coffees with designer brands. For example, I tried a pink latte and they were surprised that it had the VOGUE brand. I haven’t had coffee like this before.. Café Chloé is a successful franchise and you can also find it in Brno or Budapest. I sincerely recommend it for all Instagrammers and fashionistas!

Address: Senovážné nám. 981/21, 110 00 Prague 2

9. Dolce Mente

Dolce Mente is a wonderful Italian cafe. It has a wide range of desserts and the place is very cozy. When you get there, you won’t be able to choose because all their desserts look absolutely fantastic! For example, I tried a pistachio cookie and immediately declared that I hadn’t had such a good dessert in a long time. You can also buy salty pastries and wine there. This cute cafe is definitely one of the best in Prague!

Address: Italská 212/5, 120 00 Prague 2

10. CukrCafé Ridikulus

Harry Potter cafe in Prague? Yes, you can find such a place in the center of Prague on I.P. Pavlova. They mix magic potions here and you can also try Harry Potter-themed desserts. However, before you enthusiastically decide to add this cafe to your to-visit list, I must warn you about the huge lines in front of the cafe.

This cafe is so popular that you have to make a reservation here up to 3 weeks in advance and you have to confirm your reservation with a deposit of 500 CZK! At the same time, it is impossible to get a reservation for Saturday, because they are already booked months in advance. Crazy, right? However, the cafe sometimes leaves a few free tables for passers-by, so if there is a lot of interest, you can wait in line and visit this unique Harry Potter place!

12. Grant Café Orient

Café Orient is a nice cafe in the historic center of the city with an avant-garde atmosphere. You can sit on the outdoor terrace or inside. The cafe is really cozy with a luxurious design and is often referred to as one of the best cafes in Prague, so I had to include it in this list.

However, to put things in perspective, I also have one negative experience from here. Only when we went to pay for the coffee, they told us that it is not possible to pay by card. However, we did not have any cash with us and not even a card to withdraw from the ATM. I left my insurance card in the cafe as a deposit and we came to pay the next day. Yes, the cafe was really nice and if it was possible to pay by card there, as it should be everywhere, it would have been ranked higher in this list. if you happened to visit the cafe or will visit it, let us know if you had a similar experience and if the visit was still worth it!

Address: Ovocný trh 19, 110 00 Prague 2

13. Café Susu

Yes, I like Korean desserts! That’s why there are up to two Korean dessert cafes on this list. But this cafe is completely special! if you want to experience authentic Korean desserts, this is the place to go! Here you will find traditional bingsu icecream desserts! You can choose these amazing desserts with a specific topping. For example, I tried the Matcha & Redbean bingsu, where there was also a mochi cookie and it was really great! in addition, you can also try Oreo bingsu, mango, melon, strawberry and many other flavors. Of course, there are also other Korean delicacies such as Bungeopang and a wide selection of coffee. Cafe Susu has a great location in the center of Prague, but at the same time it is on a quiet street, which is an ideal place for an afternoon coffee and dessert. I definitely recommend this cozy cafe!
